For my 15th birthday, I got the best gift ever:
A puppy!!
I was going through a difficult time and my new dog became my best friend. I spent more time outside because I was taking her on long walks, and I finally had a busy to explore with. Even just being around her made me so happy and feel so fulfilled. She is such a good dog. I might be biased, but she seems like the BEST dog to me. She never barks, loves to play, and loves people. She truly is a friend of the world. In a way, her attitude towards the world really inspires me. She enters any new environment with enthusiasm instead of uncertainty, and assumes that each person or animal she meets is a new friend. When she runs, I feel like I can see her wild side. I can almost imagine the wolves that were her ancestors thousandssssss of years ago. I love watching her run free and not on a leash. She treats each rock, each grain of sand, and each shrub that I would usually ignore with so much curiosity. At home, she is content to sleep next to anyone who is there. During parties, craft nights, game nights, and study sessions, she lays at our feet and sleeps peacefully. Every night, she snuggles next to me in bed. She sleeps with her head on a pillow and under the blankets like a person. She can be a blanket hog though! Sometimes I wake up cold because she has wrapped herself up in all my blankets!! I really missed her when I moved to Humboldt last year. I loved living on campus, but I really missed going on adventures with my dog. The beaches and Forrests were beautiful, but it was a little bittersweet visiting them when I knew how much my dog Frankie would enjoy being there. Since I live in an apartment off campus now, I felt like it was the perfect time. My roommates were all on board and excited. After getting permission from my landlord, I drove Frankie from Sacramento to Humboldt. The first week, she was still adjusting to her new home. I think she missed my mom and dad a lot. It’s been a 6 weeks now, and she’s absolutely thriving. She goes to the beach multiple times a week, the dog park even more often, and gets tons of love and attention from my roommates. Since all our furniture was free, we let her sit on all of the couches and beds. She’s like our sixth roommate who just doesn’t talk. every person who comes through the door pets her and is excited to see her, it’s the sweetest thing ever. I’m so happy that I brought her to Humboldt!!
